Desde el anuncio de los resultados del primer trimestre que Netflix perdió 70% de su valor bursátil y se encuentra en un proceso de reestructuración que se inició en mayo, con otros 150 despidos.
Los recortes representan el 3% de la plantilla de Netflix y abarcan áreas de diversas funciones en la compañía, que se concentran en Estados Unidos, informaron los sitios especializado de Hollywood.
Unos 216 de los despidos fueron en Estados Unidos, 30 en los países de Asia Pacífico, 53 en Europa, Medio Oriente y África y 17 en Latinoamérica.
Mientras la compañía trata de acomodarse a su nueva y debilitada posición bursátil, los CEO Reed Hastings y Ted Sarandos anunciaron a sus empleados en un memo interno que «las dos tandas de despidos fueron muy duras para todos y crearon mucha ansiedad e incertidumbre, pero planeamos volver a un normal curso de negocios yendo hacia adelante».
Los ejecutivos señalaron que «mientras se hacen recortes en algunas áreas, planean invertir significativas sumas en contenido y agregar entre 1.500 y 11.500 empleados en los próximos 18 meses».
