El andinista era un hombre de nacionalidad estadounidense.
Un 2° andinista de nacionalidad estadounidense falleció en Parque Aconcagua. El deportista se llamaba John Michael Magness de 58 años.
El hombre había tenido una descompensación, cuando cerca de las 2 de la mañana del domingo 05 de febrero, se constató su deceso. El caso sucedió a menos de 24 horas del fallecimiento de un andinista noruego de 63 años ocurrido el sábado a las 13.40h, llamado Moi Oystein.
Magness se encontraba en el Campamento Independencia ubicado a 6.300 m.s.n.m., en el Parque Aconcagua. Estaba siendo asistido con oxígeno y fue trasladado por la Patrulla de Rescate hasta Nido de Cóndores a 5.500 metros sobre el nivel medio del mar.
En horas de la mañana del domingo estaba previsto que el helicóptero trasladaría el cuerpo hasta Horcones, aunque finalmente el hombre falleció.
Del hecho tomó conocimiento el ayudante fiscal, Científica y Policía Turística.
